OYEBODE, ABIRU TO STORM 15TH GANI FAWEHINMI ANNUAL LECTURE

Renowned professor of jurisprudence and international law, Prof. Akin Oyebode will on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 deliver the keynote address at the 15th Gani Fawehinmi Annual Lecture.

The former University of Ado Ekiti Vice Chancellor and Chairman of the CITY LAWYER Board of Advisors will speak on the topic, “Securing the independence of INEC – a panacea to a free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria”.

The yearly lecture which has become a permanent feature in the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikeja Branch annual calendar will hold at Airport Hotel, Ikeja by 10 a. m. It will be chaired by fiery Court of Appeal jurist, Justice Adewale Habeeb Abiru.

In a statement made available to CITY LAWYER and signed by former NBA 2nd Vice President and Chairman of the Planning Committee, Mr. Monday Ubani, the organisers said:

“Late Chief Gani Fawehinmi represents many things to so many persons. For us in Ikeja Branch of the NBA, he was epitome of hardwork, integrity and an erudite advocate. He died with his good name and reputation intact. We in Ikeja NBA have promised to continue to remember him until the end of the world.

“Come 15th of January, 2019 all members and lovers of Late Gani will gather at Airport Hotel, Ikeja by 10am to celebrate him and what he stood for. The Chairperson of the occasion shall be Hon Justice Adewale Habeeb Abiru of the Court of Appeal while the Guest Speaker shall be Professor Akin Oyebode, former Vice Chancellor of University of Ado Ekiti. As election draws nearer, the theme for dissection is “Securing the independence of INEC – a panacea to a free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria.

“It shall be a gathering of lawyers, activists, politicians, business class, Royal institution and students. Every lover of Gani and Nigeria is invited!”
