NBA President Addresses NBA Awka Branch, Commends Commitment to Professional Development and Remuneration Order Enforcement
The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, today addressed members of the NBA Awka Branch during their meeting, where he commended the branch for its dedication to professional growth, institutional development, and the welfare of legal practitioners.

In his remarks, the NBA President emphasized the importance of continuous professional development in sustaining excellence within the legal profession. He particularly applauded the leadership of the Awka Branch for consistently demonstrating this commitment by creating platforms where distinguished speakers are invited to share knowledge and insights with members. According to him, such initiatives not only enhance the competence of lawyers but also strengthen the quality of legal services delivered to society.

The President also praised the branch for its firm commitment to the enforcement of the Legal Practitioners’ Remuneration Order. He noted that the remarkable achievements highlighted in the report of the Remuneration Committee are a clear indication that the branch is taking the enforcement of the Order seriously.
Stressing the importance of proper professional remuneration, he reminded members that when lawyers charge appropriately for their services, it helps to sustain a stable and dignified legal practice. He therefore encouraged members to continue ensuring compliance with the Order across the branch.
Speaking on the broader mandate of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN reaffirmed the Association’s unwavering commitment to the protection of human rights and the defence of the rule of law. He stated that the NBA will continue to project itself as a strong institution that protects the rights of lawyers in their workplaces while also standing firmly for the rights and freedoms of Nigerians. According to him, the Bar remains committed to ensuring that Nigeria becomes a safer and more just society for all.

The NBA President also used the opportunity to encourage members of the branch to take advantage of the ongoing early bird registration for the forthcoming NBA Annual General Conference scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt from 21st to 29th August. He informed members that extensive preparations are currently underway to ensure that the conference is a highly successful and impactful gathering for the legal profession.
He further informed members that the next meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Association will take place in Anambra State, and called on the various branches within the state to collaborate closely in order to ensure the successful hosting of the meeting.
Looking ahead to the upcoming NBA election season, the President encouraged members to remain actively involved in the affairs of the Bar. He assured colleagues that under his leadership, the Association remains committed to upholding democratic principles, where every qualified member will have the opportunity to vote and be voted for in a transparent and credible electoral process.
He concluded by expressing appreciation to members of the Awka Branch for their warm reception and active participation, and wished them a productive and successful meeting.
