NEWS RELEASE
Leading human rights activist, Dr. Monday Onyekachi Ubani, SAN, has been appointed the Legal Adviser to the Assemblies of God, Nigeria.
The appointment has been greeted with praises from associates and stakeholders across the country who described the development as well-deserved and a testament to Ubani’s integrity, legal prowess, and unflinching commitment to service.
Congratulating him on the appointment, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), Engr. Wilson Ugochukwu Onwubali, described Ubani as an exceptional leader whose dedication to the Church and the legal profession stands him out.
“Your diligence, commitment, and unwavering dedication to serving the vineyard have truly set you apart,” Onwubali said in a goodwill message. “This role is a testament to your expertise and integrity, and I have no doubt that you will excel in guiding the church with wisdom and grace.”
Ubani, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikeja Branch, and former 2nd Vice President of the NBA, is widely respected for his advocacy, professionalism, and outspokenness on issues of justice and rule of law.
His appointment is expected to bring seasoned legal guidance to the Assemblies of God Nigeria, one of the oldest and largest Pentecostal denominations in the country.
Meanwhile, the fiery rights activist has hosted members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ikeja Branch to a sumptuous luncheon.
Speaking on the event, Ubani said: “It was a distinct honour and privilege to host the distinguished members of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja Branch, fondly known as the ‘Tiger Branch’ at the July edition of our monthly meeting.
“This gathering was particularly significant for me on two fronts. First, it coincides with my birthday, which comes up on the 27th of July. Secondly, it marked my first opportunity to officially host the branch since I attained the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
“This occasion also offered a moment of reflection and deep gratitude. The NBA Ikeja Branch played a pivotal role in my professional journey, electing me as Chairman in 2012, supporting my emergence as the 2nd Vice President of the NBA in 2016 and once again standing firmly behind me during my election as Chairman of the Section on Public Interest and Development Law (SPIDEL) in 2021. Returning to appreciate this formidable branch was a matter of duty and joy.
“The hosting was colourful, well-attended, and filled with camaraderie. Guests were treated to a delightful spread, including the now-universally celebrated combination of amala, gbegiri, and ewedu, a culinary masterpiece that, as I often jest, is surely reserved for those destined for heaven.
“I remain profoundly grateful for the overwhelming love, unity, and warmth shown by the ever-energetic Tigers of Ikeja Branch. Thank you for honouring me with your presence and for being an integral part of my journey.
