NBA-SPIDEL SETS UP PUBLIC INTEREST LITIGATION COMMITTEE TO CHALLENGE IMPUNTY AND LAWLESSNESS
Sequel to the decision of the President of the Nigerian Bar Association appointing a Transitional Committee for the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL), the Chairman of the Section, Prof. Paul Ananaba, SAN has constituted the Section’s Public Interest Litigation Committee which comprises of some prominent public interest litigation practitioners in Nigeria. The Committee’s mandate is to challenge all executive, legislative and administrative actions of the various governments and their agencies that run foul of the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and other laws of the country. They are also mandated to challenge actions of private entities that are against public interest, safety and law and order.

NBA-SPIDEL, being the Section of the NBA that is saddled with the responsibility of propagating the core values of the NBA which is the promotion of the rule of law, human rights, constitutionalism and ensuring the due process of law in the activities of government and its agencies, the Litigation Committee is a crucial arm of the Section which is expected to deploy the powerful instrument of public interest litigation and advocacy in ensuring that the legal profession reclaims its place as the bastion and custodian of these core values.
