The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Port Harcourt Branch, Mrs. Cordelia Uwuma Eke has lauded NBA President, Mr. Afam Osigwe SAN and members of the NBA National Executive Council (NEC) on the creation of Oyigbo Branch.
With the creation of the new branch from Port Harcourt Branch, the NBA branches in Rivers State has now shot up to nine.
Eke, who is the Chairman of the mother branch in Rivers State, said the development “is a major landmark that would further take NBA activities to the grassroots.”
Oyigbo Branch is in the Oyigbo Judicial Division of Rivers State. It was carved out of Port Harcourt Branch which is the ‘mother branch’ in the state. The branch had also birthed 7 other branches.
It is recalled that the NBA-NEC had at its meeting held in Benin City on 20th November, 2025, approved the creation of eight new branches. The move is said to “reflect the administration’s commitment to decentralization, professional accessibility, and improved member engagement.”
The new branches comprise of five branches from the Eastern Zone of the Association, two branches from the Western Zone and one branch from the Northern zone.
Osigwe commended NEC members for their commitment to strengthening grassroots participation within the Association. He stated that the new branches would bring the NBA closer to practitioners across the country and ensure more effective representation, engagement and service delivery.
