The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association has issued Notice No. 5, publishing the list of aspirants who have submitted their respective Letters of Expression of Interest to contest in the 2026 Elections of the Nigerian Bar Association.
In the Notice seen by CITY LAWYER, the Committee informed members of the Bar that the attached lists contain the names of aspirants who have indicated their interest in contesting the 2026 NBA Elections as National Officers and as Representatives of the NBA in the General Council of the Bar, having complied with ECNBA 2026 Notices Numbers 2 and 3 dated 11th and 12th February 2026 respectively.
A total of 26 aspirants signified interest to contest as NBA representatives to the General Council of the Bar.
The ECNBA clarified that it is yet to call for the nomination of candidates, noting that nomination is a separate exercise under the Nigerian Bar Association Constitution 2015 (as amended in 2025) and the Schedule thereto.
The Committee further urged aspirants and all members of the Association to strictly adhere to the provisions of the extant Constitution, the Schedule thereto, and ECNBA 2026 Notice No. 4 dated 13th February 2026 relating to campaigns.
The Notice is dated 2nd March 2026 and was signed by Aham Ejelam, SAN, Chairman (ECNBA 2026), and Ibrahim Aliyu Nassarawa, Esq., Secretary (ECNBA 2026), from the ECNBA Secretariat, NBA House, 24 Oro Ago Street, Garki, Abuja.
For National Offices, the presidential race is a tripodal battle between Mr. Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN (Lagos, 2003), Mr. Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN (Abuja, 1991), and Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okunsanya (Lagos, 2002).
In the contest for First Vice President are Chief Oghenero Okoro (Warri, 1998), Luqman Laoye (Ibadan, 1989), and Onimisi Stephen Obajaja (Lagos, 2003). Nuhu John Egya (Keffi, 2010) is vying for Second Vice President, while Iniobong Irene Pepple (Port Harcourt, 2001) is the sole aspirant listed for Third Vice President.
The General Secretary position has drawn multiple contenders, including Afamefuna Okwudili Okeke (Abuja, 2003); Barth Okoye-Aniche (Aba, 1991); Chidi Vick Ezenwafor (Abuja, 2008); Dr. Rapuluchukwu Ernest Nduka (Onitsha, 2005); Nnaebuka Onyebuchi Nwaeze (Garki, 2008); and Okey Leo Ohagba (Port Harcourt, 2007).
For Assistant General Secretary, the aspirants are Benjamin Emeka Enyiagu (Oji River, 2015); Chiduabo Prince Henry Mamah (Onitsha, 2018); Gladys Aghogho Okpomor (Minna, 2015); Onwudinjo Lucky Eloka (Anaocha, 2019); Osarodion Michael Igiede (Benin, 2014); and Osatohamwen Uwagboe (Benin, 2014).
Esther Ifeoma Jimoh (Lagos, 2001) is the sole aspirant for Treasurer. Those contesting for Welfare Secretary include Akinwunmi Samson (Ekpoma, 2008); Aigbokhai Oaikhena Osagie (Benin, 2011); Chinelo Audrey Ofoegbunam (Abuja, 2015); Chiwendu Ugochukwu (Lagos, 2011); and Ernest Ezindu Uwanaka (Idemili, 2012).
For the office of Publicity Secretary, the aspirants are Lawrence Ikpehai Ayewa (Udu, 2012); Prince Ikwuadi Azubuike (Degema, 2015); Yakubu Moses Ede (Keffi, 2010); Aki Uwomano Anthony Junior (Asaba, 2018); Hadiza Nasir Ahmad (Kano, 2016); Lukman Oladimeji Jaiyeola (Ikorodu, 2017); and Meti Monday Ukpeh (Uyo, 2019).
The ECNBA urged all aspirants and members of the Association to strictly comply with the provisions of the Constitution and existing campaign regulations, noting that the formal nomination process will be announced in due course.
