The National Officers Election Appeals Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association has declared that the window for filing petitions on the recent NBA Elections has closed.

The committee stated in a notice made available to CITY LAWYER that “Pursuant to the provisions of the Constitution of the Nigerian Bar Association, 2015 (as amended in 2025), as well as the approved guidelines governing the post-election process, we wish to inform all candidates in the just concluded national Officers election of the Nigerian Bar Association that the time allowed for the presentation of petitions before the National Officers Elections Appeal Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, officially closed on the 27th day of July, 2026.”

The notice is titled “NOTICE OF CLOSURE/EXPIRATION OF THE TIME ALLOWED FOR THE
PRESENTATION OF PETITIONS TO THE NATIONAL OFFICERS ELECTION
APPEALS COMMITTEE OF THE NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION.”

The committee warned that “the National Officers Election Appeals Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, will no longer accept any petitions beyond the aforementioned deadline.”

It stated that three candidates met the July 27, 2026, deadline to file petition, even as the committee noted that it would decide on all the petitions within the 28 days window provided in the NBA Constitution.

According to the statement signed by Adizua Chu-Chu Okoroafor SAN (Chairman) and Stella Omoikhefe Chidozie, Esq. (Secretary), “All petitions received within the prescribed period will be heard and determined within twenty-eight (28) days from the date of the receipt of the Petitions, in keeping with the provisions of the Constitution of the Nigerian Bar Association, 2015 (as amended in 2025), as well as the applicable rules of procedure. Our previous notice on the time frame for the hearing and determination of Petitions, stand corrected.”
