No fewer than 72 students of the elite Nigerian Law School have carted home the much-coveted First Class grade in the Bar Finals Examination held last February.
According to information obtained by CITY LAWYER, the outstanding students constitute only 1.3 per cent of the 5,674 aspirants to the Nigerian Bar who sat for the examination for the Backlog Set.
Meanwhile, a whopping 994 or 17.5 per cent of the students posted the much-dreaded “Fail” grade and would repeat the entire courses while 229 or 4.0 per cent of the Bar aspirants received Conditional Pass.
On the other hand, 608 (10.7 per cent) students earned Second Class Upper Division grade while 2.098 (37.0 per cent) students made the Second Class Lower Division grade.
Also 1,650 (29.1 per cent) students made the consolatory Pass grade while 23 (0.4 per cent) students were absent. One student was deceased during the academic session.
The Chief Emeka Ngige SAN-led Council of Legal Education (CLE) has also come down hard on no less than 23 Bar aspirants whose results have been withheld for sundry reasons.
The eagerly awaited results were presented by the Nigerian Law School management led by Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma SAN and approved by the Council.
CITY LAWYER recalls that 270 of the Bar aspirants who sat for the November 2024 Bar Final Examination posted First Class grade, representing 3.6 per cent of the 7,134 students who sat for the examination.
On the other hand, 994 of the 5,674 Bar aspirants (17.5 per cent) failed the latest examination, as against 940 (13.2 per cent) of the 7,134 aspirants who posted the “Fail” grade at the November 2024 Bar Final examination.
