Troops of the Nigerian Army, the police and operatives of the State Security Service have been deployed to the Lagos campus of Nigerian Law School to avert break down of law and order over alleged blasphemy.

Inside sources said the operatives have taken positions around the campus, while efforts were being made by the school authorities to control the situation.

Earlier on Sunday, it was reported a student, Madu Vitrus Sunday, sent blasphemous posts in several WhatsApp groups within the campus on Sunday, drawing the ire of the Muslim students.

Angered by the post, some of the hardline Muslim students reportedly vowed to deal with the student if action is not immediately taken by the school.

The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, Nigerian Law School chapter, however wrote a petition to the school authority for “spreading callous and blasphemous statements agains the Holy Prophet of Islam – Muhammad, PBUH, without any regards to the sensibilities of the Muslim students.”

The Muslim students wanted action to be taken in accordance with Rule 3(5) of the Code of Conduct for Students of the Nigerian Law School.

When contacted, Tijjani Nasiru, the head of the school and Deputy Director-General of the Nigerian Law School said he could not speak on the matter tonight. “Please let’s speak tomorrow. I don’t want to speak today,” he said and hung up the phone.
