Lawyers under the aegis of the Nigerian Law School Class of 1985 will today in Lagos honour the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma, SAN and 26 other class members.
This event which holds at the prestigious Lagos Oriental Hotel is in commemoration of the 40 years of Call to Bar of members of the class.
The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun (GCON); her spouse, Chief Akin Kekere-Ekun, and Governors of Lagos and Oyo States are expected to grace the occasion as Special Guests of Honour while an international academic and professor of law, Prof. Fidelis Oditah (KC, SAN) will deliver the Keynote Address.
According to a press statement jointly issued by the Chairman of the Class, Chief Emeka Ngige (SAN, OFR) and the Co-Chair of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the reunion, Mrs. Folashade Alli (SAN), the occasion will be used to honour Prof. Chiroma in recognition of his contributions to the growth of legal education in Nigeria.
Members of the Class who have distinguished themselves in various fields of human endeavour will also be honoured. Among those to be honoured are three high court judges, one Senior Advocate of Nigeria, one State Attorney-General, three professors of law, an international business mogul and 18 private legal practitioners based in Nigeria and overseas.
Among the class members to be celebrated at the occasion are Hon. Justice Mairo Nasir, a Judge of the FCT High Court; Hon. Justice Urho Erameh, a Judge of Edo State High Court; Hon. Justice Funsho Lawal, former Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Kwara State Ministry of Justice and now a Judge of Kwara State High Court; Victor Esiri Akpoguma (SAN), a private legal practitioner based in Warri; Dr. Bulus Dan-Habu, private legal practitioner based in Lagos; Dr. Olusoji Elias, 2025 UK Global Corporate Lawyer & African Lawyer of the Year and Pioneering Legal Innovator; Mr. Samanja Saleh, former DPP, Solicitor-General/Permanent Secretary and currently Hon. Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Yobe State, and Mr. Michael Prest, a billionaire businessman, international oil and gas guru and investor based in London.
Others are Mr. Abiodun Olugbenga Kadri, Prosecutor, Crown Prosecuting Services, London UK; Prof. Uche Jack Osimiri, renowned author and law teacher, Rivers State University, Port Harcourt; Prof. Taiwo Francis Ajala, Law teacher at Lagos State University (LASU); Mr. Godwin Paulinus James, Lagos-based private legal practitioner; Mr. Anthony Ugonna Muoneke, former Managing Director of Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), Executive Director of Finance & Administration, Niger Delta Power Holding Company Ltd (NDPHC) and now a Los Angeles based Commercial Law Attorney; Lady Uwala Murphy-Akpieyi, Alternative Dispute Resolution guru and Lagos based private legal practitioner; Mr. Stanley Uzo Aghaegbuna, a legal practitioner based in Canada; Mr. Anthony Ogheneochuko Merah, private legal practitioner based in Calgary, Canada; Mr. Victor and Mrs. Segilola Guobabia , Lagos based couple and renowned commercial law practitioners, and Hon. Anthonia Tabansi-Okoye, the first and only member of the Class of 1985 to be elected twice to a legislative house and currently Commissioner, Anambra State Local Government Service Commission.
Also to be honoured are Pastor Felix Olayinka Adeoye, a retired Director, Corporate Planning, Strategy and Risk Management, NCC; Lady Angela Ngerem (nee Aguiyi-Ironsi), Real Estate Law Practitioner; Mrs. Helen Oloja, former Director of Legal Services at FCTA and former Chair, Industrial Arbitration Panel, Abuja; Dr. Monday Cyriacus Uwasomba, retired Solicitor General/Permanent Secretary at Imo State Ministry of Justice and currently a Senior Law Lecturer at Madonna University; Dr. (Pastor) Mrs. Siju Iluyomade, Corporate Law practice guru and women empowerment activist; Mr. Temple Okechukwu Waamah, Port Harcourt based private legal practitioner; Ms. Helyn Obiageli Aninye, private legal practitioner and oil & gas magnate; Pastor Mrs. Adebanke Akinboboye (nee Adesida), a mediation expert, former Group Legal Counsel of Bollore African Logistics, and Managing Partner at Folashade Alli & Associates.
Another highlight of the anniversary gala night is the unveiling of the second phase of fund-raising for the medical clinic of the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School now under construction by the Class as part of their giving back to their alma mater.
The statement enjoined members of the class to turn out en masse for the exquisite 40th anniversary reunion gala night ahead of the scheduled 5 pm take-off time.
