COURT REMANDS GAS STATION MANAGER IN KIRIKIRI OVER ALLEGED N18M THEFT

A magistrate’s court sitting at Eti-Osa in Lagos has remanded one Ruth Mathew, a manager of Second Coming Gas Plant in Kirikiri Correctional Centre over an alleged theft of her employer’s N18 million.

According to the three-count charge seen by CITY LAWYER, the accused is alleged to have conspired with some persons still at large to steal the money and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

Aside from being charged under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State for allegedly stealing the sum of N18,032,508 in the cause of her employment as Manager of the gas station, the accused was also charged with the offence of conduct likely to cause breach of peace, contrary to section 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

When the charge was read to the accused person, she pleaded ‘Not Guilty’ to the three counts.

This led the Prosecutor Adeleke Ganiyu to pray the court to remand the accused person pending trial.

Magistrate T. F. Oyaniyi however granted bail to the accused in the sum of N8 million and two sureties who must be tax payers and gainfully employed. Meanwhile, she was remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending perfection of bail.

The matter was adjourned to 10th September, 2025 for mention.
