Lagos Law Week: Over 40 Law Experts Expected

Over 40 jurists are expected to feature at this year’s Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos Branch Law Week which kicks off tomorrow with a health walk.
Aside from the plethora of topical legal issues to be dissected at the two-day plenary sessions holding on Thursday and Friday at City Hall, Lagos, the Law Week will be garnished with visits to Ikoyi and Kirikiri prisons as well as fun events such as welcome cocktails, the “Ankara Rave” party and Elders’ Nite.

Among the leading lights of the profession who have confirmed attendance are Mrs Funke Adekoya SAN, Mr. Yemi Candide-Johnson SAN, Mr. Gbenga Oyebode SAN, Mr Asue Ighodalo, and Mr. Kamal Shah.
Others are Prof. Gbolahan Elias SAN, Prof. Fabian Ajogwu SAN, Hon. Justice Nelson Ogbuanya, Prof. Ayo Atsenuwa, Dr. Dapo Olanipekun SAN, Dr. Cheluchi Onyemelukwe, Prof. Doyin Salami, Mrs. Mfon Usoro, Mr. Edem Andah and Mr. Theo Emuwa, to name a few.
The theme of the Law Week is “Human capital and the legal profession in the 21st century.”
One of the eagerly awaited topics is “The rainmaker lawyer” where industry giants are slated to offer invaluable insights on how lawyers can grow their practice as a business.
According to Mr. Tola Oshobi SAN, Chairman of the 2018 Law Week Committee, the week will also witness the offering of free legal services to indigent prison inmates through a Legal Clinic as well as presentation of various gifts to prisons. Other activities include “Health Check” for branch members at the Lagos High Court foyer and a National Identity Card registration exercise.
Other topics to be tackled at the plenary sessions include ‘Client Expectations in the 21st Century;’ ‘Technology & Innovation;’ ‘The 21st Century Young Lawyer’ as well as a session with judges of the National Industrial Court on recent developments in labour litigation.

8 – 15 years – N5,000
16 – 19 years – N7,000
20 years and above – N10,000
