The chances of Mrs. Cordelia Eke, a leading chairmanship candidate in tomorrow’s high-stakes Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Port Harcourt Branch Elections, brightened further with her endorsement today by prominent Bar Leader and former NBA National Officer, Mr. Okey Ohagba.

In a statement obtained by CITY LAWYER, Ohagba, who was NBA First Assistant General Secretary between 2016 and 2018, described Eke as “a square peg in a square hole.”

He vowed that Eke, who is reputed as a ferocious criminal litigator, “is our best foot forward for a more progressive and all inclusive NBA Port Harcourt Branch.”

Leaving no-one in doubt as to his preferences, Ohagba wrote: “I hereby endorse her for the office of Chairman, NBA Port Harcourt Branch.”

The full text of his statement reads:

“Mrs. Cordelia Eke is a square peg in a square hole. She is our best foot forward for a more progressive and all inclusive NBA Port Harcourt Branch.

“Her proven capacity and competence is unequalled!

“I hereby endorse her for the office of Chairman, NBA Port Harcourt Branch.

“Take a CUE!”

Mrs. Eke has held several sensitive and high-profile positions within the NBA aside from being a ranking Director at the Rivers State Ministry of Justice.

A cerebral text writer and Bar Leader, Mrs. Eke was a member of the NBA Technical Committee on Conference Planning (TCCP) in 2018 and Secretary of the NBA Electoral Reform Committee between 2022 and 2023.

Earlier in 2020, she was appointed into the highly sensitive position of Secretary of the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA), having held sway as Council Member of the NBA Human Rights Institute (NBA-HRI) between 2017 and 2018. She has also been in the forefront of advocacy for women and children’s rights under the aegis of International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), and recently hosted some widows and the Rivers State Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Mma Ordu, during the FIDA programme in celebration of the International Widows’ Day.

She was a pioneer female Secretary of NBA Port Harcourt Branch between 2016 and 2018 and is currently a member of the NBA Remuneration Committee which is designed to proffer better employment and fees for lawyers.
