The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, has arrived Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, for the eagerly anticipated parley on corruption in the justice sector.
The session is one of the highpoints of the ongoing and highly successful Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) Annual Conference holding in Uyo. The session is themed, “Tackling corruption in the Nigerian justice sector: The role of the Bar.”
According to a statement by Assoc. Prof. Uju Agomoh and Mr. Enome Amatey, the Chair and Secretary respectively of the 2025 NBA-SPIDEL Annual Conference Planning Committee (CPC), Aliyu is billed to deliver an Address at the technical session “which aims to interrogate the place of the Bar in tackling corruption in the justice sector.”
The session has the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Justice Ekaete Obot, as Chairman while fiery Bar Leader and former Rivers State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Worgu Boms, is the Lead Presenter.
The discussants include the respected Bar Leader and Chairman of Council of Legal Education (CLE), Chief Emeka Ngige SAN; former Dean of Law at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), High Chief Prof. Ogugua Ikpeze; Justice Comfort Ani of the Enugu State High Court; Prof. Ernest Ojukwu SAN; Mr. Abiodun Owonikoko SAN; Dr. Juliet Ibekaku, and Mr. Bayo Akinlade.
Among the sub-themes to be interrogated by the eminent panel are steps to effectively fight corruption in law enforcement; prosecution, judiciary and correctional service delivery in Nigeria; ethics of non-compliance, and strengthening the capacity of NBA to self-regulate.
The ICPC Chairman had vowed to combat all forms of corruption, saying: “Though the task ahead of me may be challenging, with the support of the management and the entire staff of ICPC, a lot of successes will be recorded under my watch.
“I am ready to work with you as a team, and I am also promising you that I will lead by example.”
