NBA PORT HARCOURT ASKS POLICE TO PROBE DEATH OF BRIGHT OWHOR

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Port Harcourt Branch has demanded probe of the death of its member, Mr. Bright Nda Owhor who was fatally shot last Saturday while on his way from work.

In a letter made available to CITY LAWYER and addressed to the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, the branch leadership chronicled the circumstances leading to the death of its member. The letter is titled “A PETITION FOR THOROUGH INVESTIGATION INTO THE GRUESOME MURDER/ASSASSINATION OF BRIGHT NDA-OWHOR ESQ.”

Signed by the fiery Chairman of the branch, Cordelia Eke, it noted that “His gruesome murder has sent shock waves to the legal community and Rivers State in general, and has raised serious concerns of the safety and security of the residents of Rivers State.”

Speaking directly to the demand for investigation, the branch leadership wrote: “We therefore urge you to use your good offices to investigate this matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

Meanwhile, the branch leadership has paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased member.

Led by the branch chairman, the delegation included top Branch Executive officers and other  branch members.

While condoling the widow, Eke expressed shock and sadness over the gruesome incident, describing the late Owhor as “a disciplined, outstanding, and respectable lawyer who carried himself with dignity.”

She noted that the branch has lost not just a colleague but a committed Bar man and a jolly good fellow whose presence will be sorely missed, adding that “It is unimaginable why such a violent act would be meted on someone as peaceful and professional as Bright.”

She assured the grieving family that the branch would leave no stone unturned to ensure that the perpetrators of the crime were brought to justice.

The delegation prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed member and asked God to grant the family the strength to bear the loss.

CITY LAWYER gathered that the branch leadership has visited the Rivers State Police Commissioner and delivered the letter demanding a probe into the murder.

It was gathered that Owhor was  shot in the head by unidentified gunmen at about 8 pm outside a supermarket on Okigwe Road, Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt, in the late hours of Saturday, July 5, 2025, while on his way home from work.

He was reportedly rejected by two hospitals before succumbing to the cold hands of death at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, Port Harcourt.
