The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has said that it has “taken decisive steps to restore confidence in the electoral process of its Port Harcourt Branch.”

This is coming on the heels of a high-level stakeholders’ meeting convened by NBA President, Mr. Afam Osigwe, SAN.

In a statement seen by CITY LAWYER, the association noted that “The meeting provided a platform for robust and constructive dialogue among all stakeholders. Concerns raised in the run-of to the elections were exhaustively deliberated upon, with a collective resolve to uphold the integrity and transparency in the conduct of the election to ensure the unity of the Branch.”

A communique on the meeting stated that “An Electoral Committee is constituted with the 1st Vice President, leading a team comprising of Mr. Omubo Frank Briggs, a Former 3rd Vice President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Dr. Azubuike Friday and Dr. Hilda Desmond Iheakaire.

“Idris Abayomi Shehu shall continue to serve as Chairman of the Caretaker Committee but will not participate in the activities of Electoral Committee to allay concerns of members of the Branch.”

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has taken decisive steps to restore confidence in the electoral process of its Port Harcourt Branch following a high-level stakeholders’ meeting convened by the President of the Association, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN.

The resolutions were contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting held on Saturday, 25 July 2026, at the NBA Port Harcourt House, Rivers State.

The communiqué, signed by Idris Abayomi Shehu, Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Dr. Azubuike Friday, Secretary, and Dr. Hilda Desmond Iheakaire, Member noted that all stakeholders present pledged to abide by the resolutions reached and work collectively towards a peaceful, credible, and widely acceptable election that will produce a duly elected Executive Committee for the Branch.
