The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has unveiled its amended constitution titled Nigerian Bar Association 2015 (as amended in 2025).
A certified copy of the amended constitution was made available to CITY LAWYER by an NBA officer.
It is instructive that NBA President, Mr. Afam Osigwe SAN made references to the amended constitution in his report to the recently concluded NBA National Executive Council (NBA-NEC) Meeting which held in Maiduguri last Thursday.
Below are the references.
Following the approval of the National Executive Council at its meeting held on 20th November 2025 in Benin City, Edo State, I formally inaugurated the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) to oversee the 2026 elections of the Association. The Committee, chaired by Mr. Aham Eke-Ejelam, SAN. The other members of the ECNBA are Ibrahim Aliyu Nasarawa (Secretary), Muhammad M. Nuhu, Uju Okafor, and Ume Maduka as Members. The ECNBA is responsible for overseeing the election of National Officers of the Association and NBA Representatives to the General Council of the Bar, in strict accordance with the NBA Constitution (2015as amended 2025).

Consequent upon the registration of the NBA Constituted (sic) as amended and adopted at our last AGM in Enugu on August 28, 2028, which stipulates that the ECNBA shall comprise of seven members, we hereby propose that Hadiza Nura Alfa of Minna Branch and Umimke Helen Akpana of Ogoja branch be appointed as additional members of the ECNBA to complete the membership.

May I respectfully remind us of some salient provisions of Schedule Two, Part III of the NBA Constitution as amended at the NBA AGM on August 28, 2025, breach of which will lead to disqualification of an aspirant or candidate: ….

In a report titled “One Year of Bold Reforms and Shared Progress: NBA President Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, Reports Milestone Achievements at Annual General Meeting in Enugu,” the Osigwe wrote:
“Strengthening the NBA Constitution and Governance
The AGM also served as a landmark for internal reforms. After a robust debate, members adopted significant amendments to the NBA Constitution, strengthening governance frameworks, enhancing accountability, and ensuring sustainable institutional growth.”
