‘Still On 2025 SPIDEL Leadership Transition – We can Leverage on the Positives’
Based on the election committee report released on this platform, which I am taking the liberty of considering as ‘information’ and the discernment of other information shared, projected, availed and offered so far, it appears there was a genuine effort by stakeholders (everyone indeed) to utilize the well considered opportunity and support provided by the current NBA Leadership to revitalize SPIDEL through the interim committee, starting with the Uyo conference.
One can now be convinced that there was a process management (at all levels) to acheive the desired goal of getting SPIDEL administration re-started. Every concerned member should not loose sight of those efforts and the gains achieved.
Be that as it may, the Conference was a huge success and efforts at achieving new leadership is genuinely acknowledged. There is no doubt, the transition management process may appear unsatisfactory to some persons involved. But I know that SPIDEL leadership transition has not always been by election in the manner we may all consider or expect as standard. We can go back in SPIDEL history and verify. It does not also mean that SPIDEL cannot attain a standard electioneering transition the way it suits the nature and objectives of the Section.
One fact I know is that there has always been a unanimous and harmonization approach in SPIDEL Leadership matters. It is not always acceptable to everyone but it is usually agreed by Majority in unison to be fair and acceptable. I was not in Uyo but if the transition process as managed was agreed by the majority present at the physical AGM (I am not sure there was a virtual proceedings), then we can rely on the proceedings of that day, leverage on the positives and take next steps in building the Section. Minority reservations and personal opinions can also be made appropriately at SPIDEL Official Meetings. Gentlemen, it is a fact that unmoderated online platforms arguments are always less productive.
Without being personal, I can attest that almost everyone whose name is strongly mentioned or reffered to here, have actually sacrified for SPIDEL. I know because I have been involved.
It is without doubt that there is a new Executive Committee headed by a distinguished member who can actually lead a group like SPIDEL anywhere in the world, or even NBA itself. There equally are other new officers, and committee members who may like to prove a point that SPIDEL can get better and do better starting with UYO Conference.
May be it is time that SPIDEL can learn some lessons from SLP and SBL in terms of their leadership succession processes and instutionalize it.
As a way forward, can we mobilize our intellectual, material and skills resources in support of the New Executive and with them, aspire for the greater good and putting SPIDEL on a solid footing.
Can we now apply some restraint and inflections in the way we address the outcome of the current SPIDEL transition as information have clearly shown that there was genuine, sincere, popular, but may be imperfect efforts at achieving the much needed new Executive Committee.
I strongly believe that a follow up Meeting will facilitate the integration and resolution of the divergent views, perceptions amongst members and give every member an opportunity to participate in the process of charting an enduring paths for SPIDEL.
Let’s just move!
