An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has validated the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 2025 national elective convention, held in the city on November 15 and 16, 2025, and recognised the leadership of the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) as authentic.
The judgment, delivered today by Justice Ladiran Akintola of Court 5, granted all 13 reliefs sought by the claimant, Folahan Malomo Adelabi, through his counsel, Musbau Adetunmbi (SAN).
The court ruled that the convention complied fully with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended), and other relevant laws.
But the latest decision of the court creates confusion in the ongoing PDP leadership crisis, coming nearly a month after a Federal High Court in Ibadan nullified the same convention.
In a January 30, 2026, judgment, Justice Uche Agomoh declared the convention invalid for flouting subsisting court orders.
The judge held that the Caretaker Committee led by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Samuel Anyanwu remained the only recognised NWC, pending a valid national convention, and barred the Turaki-led officials from parading as party leaders.
The NICHE reports that the latest Oyo State High Court judgment effectively affirms the emergence of Dr. Tanimu Turaki as National Chairman and the entire NWC elected at the convention.
