Respected senior lawyer, Mr. Usman Sule, SAN, is billed to speak at the 65th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), taking place from August 22 to 29, 2025, at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Enugu, Enugu State.
Themed “Stand Out, Stand Tall,” this year’s conference will bring together an estimated 22,000 legal professionals to engage in thought-provoking discussions around innovation, excellence, and justice in Nigeria’s legal and democratic systems.
Mr. Sule will be featured as a speaker at the Breakout Session II on the topic: “Rethinking ‘Political-Questions’,” scheduled for Tuesday, August 26, 2025, from 3:20 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the ICC.
The session will examine the long-standing doctrine of non-justiciability in the internal affairs of political parties, revisiting landmark cases such as Onouha v. Okafor and Amaechi v. INEC. Sule is expected to provide deep legal insights on how the doctrine has evolved and how courts can constructively engage such matters while safeguarding democratic integrity.
The keynote address at the conference will be delivered by South African politician and leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Mr. Julius Malema, during the opening ceremony on Sunday, August 24.
Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, Chief Emeka Obegolu, PhD, SAN, FICMC, has assured participants of a robust and impactful event that will challenge old norms and inspire fresh perspectives within the legal profession.
Mr. Sule, SAN will also feature as a panelist in the first session, themed “Dying Embers of Professional Ethics: Blunted Sword of the Gatekeepers,” will spark deep reflection on the erosion of core values in legal practice.
Renowned legal scholar and keynote speaker, Professor Yusuf Olaolu Ali, SAN, will deliver a thought-provoking address on the waning influence of ethical standards in modern legal practice.
The session will be chaired and moderated by Hon. Justice Olabode Adegbehingbe, JCA, who will set the tone for a candid conversation on the responsibilities of lawyers as custodians of justice.
