Justice Daniel Osiagor of the Federal High Court, Lagos, has fixed the trial of two Nigerian women, Ijeoma Chinwe Agbakoba and Ifeoma Maryjane Okoye, for June 10, 2026, over alleged unlawful possession of prohibited drugs, namely cocaine and heroin.
Justice Osiagor fixed the trial date after the defendants were arraigned last Friday on a four count-charge of alleged conspiracy and unlawful possession of prohibited substances by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The defendants were charged before the court in an amended four-charge numbered FHC/L/600C/2024. The defendants allegedly committed the acts on July 3, 2024, at Plot 2205 Eugene Ndubisi Close, Lilly Estate, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos.
The prosecutor, Mr. M. O. Oliver, told the court that the two defendants conspired among themselves to possess prohibited narcotics without lawful authority, contrary to provisions of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act.
While the defendants were jointly charged in two counts, the first defendant, Ijeoma Chinwe Agbakoba, was separately charged in Count Three and Four of the charge.
They were alleged to have jointly and separately unlawfully possessed 3.56 kilogrammes of heroin and 2.42 kilogrammes of cocaine.
The offences according to the prosecutor, contravened Sections 14(b) and 19 of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act CAP N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, and punishable under the same Act.
The defendants denied the allegations and pleaded ‘Not guilty’ to the charges.
Based on their plea, their lawyers, Dennis Warri and Kate Igbo, prayed the court to allow them to continue with bail terms granted them when they were first arraigned.
NEWS DISH reports that Justice Osiagor then adjourned the matter to June 10, 2026, for trial.
