Promoting NBA Members’ Interests and Welfare Beyond Borders

Engaging with international organizations, governments, and other bar associations to promote NBA members’ interests and welfare is a commitment i intend to keep. Because your welfare should not end at our borders. It should open doors to partnerships, protections, benefits, and opportunities for every lawyer in the NBA.

But I am not just making promises. I am walking the talk. Through the NBA Unpacked by Audrey series on Twitter/X, we have been telling the stories of our colleagues. Highlighting their struggles, celebrating their wins, and amplifying voices that have long gone unheard. That series has impacted persons across branches, young lawyers, aged members, the vulnerable…by creating visibility, solidarity, and real support networks. Welfare is not theory, it is people living through life.

As National Welfare Secretary, I will scale this impact through:

Advocacy that gets results locally and internationally
Solidarity across the Legal Community
Empowering Members through direct support, health insurance, welfare funds, and member benefits

Distinguished Colleagues of the Inner and Outer Bar, good day.

I am Audrey Chinelo Ofoegbunam, and I am deeply honoured to present myself as a candidate for the office of National Welfare Secretary of our great Association.

As a proud member of the NBA Abuja Branch, I have had the privilege of serving our Branch in various capacities, including Assistant Secretary and Treasurer. These roles have strengthened my understanding of service, accountability, and the importance of putting members first.

My vision is simple, to make the welfare of every lawyer a practical reality, not just a campaign promise.

If elected, I will champion initiatives that include:

Establishing a sustainable Welfare Fund to support members in times of need.
Expanding access to mental health and wellness support.
Securing Corporate Social Responsibility partnerships to provide professional development grants and opportunities.
Advocating for emergency financial assistance and retirement planning initiatives for members.
Developing a user friendly mobile platform that provides easy access to welfare services, networking opportunities, and timely NBA updates.

Beyond programmes, I will work collaboratively with the President, National Officers, Branches, and relevant committees to ensure that welfare remains at the heart of every policy. Regular welfare assessments and transparent reporting will help us identify emerging challenges and implement practical, responsive solutions.

I believe in transparency, accountability, inclusion, and service. Together, we can build a Bar where every lawyer feels protected, supported, valued, and empowered to thrive professionally and personally.

A vote for me is a vote for a stronger welfare system, greater financial security, meaningful member support, and an NBA that truly puts its members first.

Your welfare is my priority. Together, let us build a stronger Bar where lawyers live better, practice better, and restore the excellence of our Association.
