BREAKING: SANs THWART EFCC’S BID TO ARREST USORO

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) may have failed failed to arrest Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, Mr. Paul Usoro SAN today. Also, the arraignment earlier scheduled for today could not hold.

An associate of Mr. Usoro who is familiar with the case said EFCC pleaded that the charge sheet was not available.

His words: “He was not arraigned. It’s obvious they weren’t prepared for arraignment. They said the lPO with the charge is not around.”

The arraignment has now been rescheduled for Tuesday, December 18, 2018.

A source told CITY LAWYER that an attempt to arrest Usoro after today’s hearing was also resisted by some senior lawyers.

According to the source, though EFCC had “invited” the NBA President to proceed to their office to be served with the charge, this did not go down well with the senior lawyers.

A truce was reached for Usoro to drive down on his own with the EFCC team to collect the charge.

Usoro had earlier turned down EFCC’s invitation to come to its office to pick up the charge, asking the antigraft agency to serve him in court.

CITY LAWYER gathered that Usoro’s defence was led by former NBA President, Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN among other senior advocates and lawyers.

More details soon.
