PRESS RELEASE
APPO Secretary General, Farid Ghezali, to Deliver Keynote Address at Africa’s Premier Energy Law Conference
Lawyers in Energy Network (LIEN), reputed as Nigeria’s foremost professional association for energy law practitioners and stakeholders, is delighted to announce the Lawyers in Energy International Conference (LEICA) 2026, a premier platform for advancing dialogue on the future of energy law, policy, regulation, and investment across Africa.
Holding under the theme: “Net Zero, Energy Law and Regulatory Reform: Managing Risk and Unlocking Opportunity in a Carbon-Constrained Energy Market,”
LEICA 2026 will convene leading legal practitioners, policymakers, regulators, judges, business executives, investors, academics, development partners, and energy professionals from across Africa and beyond to examine the legal and regulatory reforms necessary to navigate the global energy transition while safeguarding Africa’s development priorities.
In a significant demonstration of its commitment to promoting dialogue and collaboration within Nigeria’s energy sector, the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources has officially partnered with LEICA 2026 as the Anchor Partner. The partnership underscores the Ministry’s support for initiatives that strengthen legal and regulatory institutions, encourage investment, and advance sustainable growth within the energy industry.
A major highlight of the conference will be the keynote address by Mr. Farid Ghezali, Secretary General of the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO). Widely recognised for his leadership in shaping Africa’s energy agenda, Mr. Ghezali will share insights on the continent’s evolving energy landscape, regional cooperation, investment opportunities, and the critical role of legal and regulatory frameworks in delivering an equitable and practical energy transition.
Speaking on the significance of the conference, George Etomi, Chairman of Lawyers in Energy Network, said: “LEICA has become one of Africa’s most respected platforms for advancing conversations at the intersection of law, policy, and the energy industry. As countries balance energy security, sustainability, and economic growth, there is an urgent need for legal and regulatory systems that inspire investor confidence while supporting innovation and responsible resource development. LEICA 2026 will bring together the brightest minds to shape solutions for Africa’s energy future.”
The conference programme will feature an impressive lineup of plenary sessions, panel discussions, technical sessions, networking events, and the prestigious LEICA Awards, celebrating organisations and individuals whose leadership and innovation continue to shape the energy industry.
Participants will engage in robust discussions on topics including:
• Energy sector reforms for an orderly Net Zero transition.
