THE FUTURE OF THE BAR STARTS WITH AN INFORMED ELECTORATE: NBA LAGOS BRANCH HOSTS INTERACTIVE TOWN HALL MEETING AT 2026 LAW WEEK

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lagos Branch Annual Law Week 2026 was not only a platform for examining the future of legal practice in the digital age—it also provided an opportunity to shape the future of the Nigerian Bar Association.

As part of the Law Week programme, the Branch hosted an Interactive Town Hall Meeting with aspirants contesting for various national offices in the forthcoming NBA Elections, reinforcing its commitment to promoting informed participation, transparent leadership and democratic governance within the Association.

The Town Hall brought together members of the Bar and aspiring national officers in an open and engaging forum where ideas were exchanged, leadership visions were presented, and critical issues affecting the legal profession were openly discussed.

Aspirants outlined their policy priorities while responding to questions from members on matters central to the future of the profession.

In keeping with the overarching Law Week theme, “Lawyering in the Digital Age: Navigating Technology, Justice and Innovation,” the discussions highlighted the leadership qualities and policy direction required to position the Nigerian Bar Association for a rapidly evolving legal landscape. Participants emphasised the need for visionary, accountable, and innovative leadership capable of strengthening the Bar, improving member welfare and advancing the administration of justice.

The interactive format encouraged candid conversations, constructive engagement, and accountability, enabling members to critically assess the aspirations and capacity of those seeking to lead the Association. More importantly, it empowered members to make informed decisions ahead of the national elections while fostering a culture of issue-based campaigns and participatory governance.

By incorporating the Town Hall into its Law Week activities, the NBA Lagos Branch once again demonstrated its leadership in creating platforms that extend beyond continuing legal education to include institutional development, democratic participation and meaningful engagement on the future of the legal profession.

As the conversations throughout Law Week challenged lawyers to embrace innovation while preserving the values of justice, ethics and professionalism, the Interactive Town Hall served as a fitting reminder that the future of the Bar depends not only on technological advancement but also on visionary leadership, accountability and the active participation of its members.
