FOREMOST ARBITRATOR, DOYIN RHODES-VIVOUR LEADS i-ADRNigeria MAIDEN FELLOWSHIP TRAINING

Leading Chartered Arbitrator, Mrs. Adedoyin Rhodes-Vivour (SAN, C.Arb, FCIArb UK) is currently leading an elite team of faculty members in the maiden hybrid Fellowship Training hosted by the Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution Development and Conflict Management of Nigeria (i-ADRNigeria).

Mrs. Rhodes-Vivour is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) and a CEDR UK accredited Mediator.

Over the course of five days (17th to 21st March, 2025), the i-ADRNigeria training will guide participants through the entire ADR spectrum, including Arbitration, Mediation, Negotiation, and various hybrid ADR processes.

Aside from the acclaimed arbitrator, the faculty also comprises experienced and go-to Alternative Dispute Resolution practitioners who are subject matter experts in the field of ADR.

These include consummate ADR practitioner and former Dean of Law, University of Lagos (UNILAG); Professor Akin Ibidapo-Obe, FiADRN, FiCMN; Professor Jide Olagunju, FCIArb; and Mr. John Dare Oloyede, FiADRN, FiCMN.

The event marks a significant milestone for i-ADRNigeria as several of Nigeria’s leading professionals come together to be trained as ADR practitioners and Fellows of the Institute.

The Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution Development and Conflict Management of Nigeria (iADRNigeria) joined the ranks of notable ADR institutions in the country in November 2024, with the objective of training ADR practitioners and developing the field by promoting Customary Arbitration.

The erudite Mrs. Rhodes-Vivour has practiced law for nearly four decades and specializes in commercial transactions, international and domestic arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. She has also acted as Consultant to regulatory bodies (Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC; Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC). in drawing up industry-specific arbitration/ADR schemes

She has extensive experience in Arbitration and ADR mainly under the UNCITRAL, ICC and LCIA Rules. Mrs. Rhodes-Vivour’s has been recognized as one of the world’s leading arbitrators in publications such as the Arbitration Chapter of Who’s Who Legal Nigeria. She is described by ‘Who’s Who Legal’ as “second to none for her skill and versatile thinking”. She is listed in editions of Guide to the World’s Leading Commercial Arbitration Experts [Expert Guide] as one of the preeminent professionals in the world.

She holds various significant roles in international dispute resolution organizations. Mrs. Rhodes-Vivour is a member of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR. She is a Vice President of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) African Users’ Council and an inaugural member of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SCIA) Users Council. She is a member of the Board of the African Arbitration Association (AfAA), the International Law Association (ILA) International Committee on International Commercial Arbitration, and Pioneer Chair of the Committee on International Commercial Arbitration of the International Law Association (ILA) Nigerian Branch. She is a member of the ArbitralWomen, member of the International Steering Committee on the ERA Pledge, and Co-Chair of the African Subcommittee on the ERA Pledge.

Mrs. Rhodes-Vivour was nominated by Nigeria as a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration, PCA at The Hague, The Netherlands. She consequently served on the Court between 2010 and 2016. She was a member of the National Committee on the Reform and Harmonization of Arbitration/ADR Laws in Nigeria. She was also a member of the Task Force on the revision of the ICC Rules as Appointing Authority in UNCITRAL and other Ad Hoc Proceedings and the Taskforce on Decision as to Costs of the Commission on Arbitration and ADR, International Chamber of Commerce, Paris.

She is a past Chairperson, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) Nigeria Branch (2016-2019); Founding Member and Pioneer President of the Maritime Arbitrators Association of Nigeria (2005-2010), and a Council Member of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

She is the author of the highly recommended book titled ‘Commercial Arbitration Law and Practice in Nigeria through the Cases’ published by LexisNexis.
