Solicitors to the immediate past Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Port Harcourt Branch, Mrs. Cordelia Eke has warned Port Harcourt based lawyer, Mr. Tupele Jefferson Isoun “to pull down his nefarious posts and retract his false comments immediately on social media, in his own best interests.”
CITY LAWYER recalls that Isoun had alleged in a social media post that “it’s disheartening that Cordelia Eke Esq. in her financial report held last Friday 26th June 2026 informed members in it’s (sic) Annual General Meeting of the branch, that the branch made one billion fifty million naira in the 2025/2026 fiscal year and she spent one billion six million naira and left only forty four million naira as saving in the branch account.”
But in a fiery rebuttal seen by CITY LAWYER, Eke’s Solicitors described Isoun’s post as “malicious, misleading, and defamatory,” adding that “We have the instructions of Mrs. Eke to respond to the said ignoble publication.”
The rebuttal was signed by Mr. M. O. Egware and titled “REJOINDER ON THE MISLEADING AND DEFAMATORY POST BY TUPELE JEFFERSON ISOUN AGAINST MRS. CORDELIA EKE, PAST CHAIRMAN NBA PORT HARCOURT BRANCH.”
The Solicitors stated that the lawyer completely misinterpreted the financial report rendered by the Eke Administration, saying: “It is on record that Mrs. Cordelia Eke served out her tenure as chairman of NBA Port Harcourt Branch on the 27th of June 2026 after holding the branch AGM wherein she was highly commended for her various achievements in office.”
Continuing, the Solicitors wrote: “Ordinarily therefore, one would not have bothered to respond to the unfounded allegations by Tupele Jefferson Isoun, Esq who, has constantly harassed, defamed, and cyber bullied the immediate past chairman of the branch on several social media platforms throughout her tenure as chairman, for reasons best known to him. It is however needful to do so now to set the records straight.
“It is to the credit of the past Chairman Mrs. Cordelia Eke, that during her tenure, for the first time , the branch received an inflow of over 1 billion Naira through the Branch accounts in the last fiscal year, which is quite unprecedented. It is, however, to be noted that the said sums were mostly lawyers’ fees paid through the branch by clients to ensure compliance with the NBA Remuneration Order standards for legal documentation. Most of these funds were also remitted to the Lawyers, less minimal administrative charges.
“It is also basic financial knowledge that as long as the monies pass through the NBA PH Branch account, they must be reported as income, while the bulk of the monies paid out to the respective lawyers are captured as expenditure. This was well stated in the Treasurers report and the Auditor’s report at the branch Biennial General Meeting.
“These facts are well known to the said Mr. Tupele Jefferson Isoun, but he intentionally chose to misrepresent the facts, discredit her administration and present the past chairman in bad light to her employers and the public at large.
“This is most unfortunate and indeed necessary steps would now be taken to address this conduct with necessary consequences.
“Mr. Isoun is hereby advised to pull down his nefarious posts and retract his false comments immediately on social media, in his own best interests.”
CITY LAWYER gathered that the former branch chairman has instructed her Solicitors to take out both civil and criminal defamation actions against the lawyer.
It was gathered that Isoun has been served with the Pre-Action Notice by Eke’s Solicitors, though it is unclear whether he has responded to the notice.
