NASS SIEGE: Ojukwu Tasks NBA on Democracy

  • Frontline presidential candidate in the forthcoming Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Elections, Prof. Ernest Ojukwu SAN has urged NBA leadership to play a more active role in securing Nigeria’s fragile democracy.

In a statement made available to CITY LAWYER, Ojukwu who is fondly called “Teacher,” also commended Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo SAN for his decisive action in bringing the situation under control.

The statement reads:

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY SIEGE – AG PRESIDENT OSINBAJO RENEWS HOPE IN DEMOCRACY
The immediate and unequivocal condemnation of the illegal DSS-Police siege on the National Assembly and the decisive termination of the appointment of the DSS boss by His Excellency AG President Yemi Osinbajo SAN has renewed great hopes that our democracy shall survive.

I am excited to be counted as a Nigerian, a lawyer and a law teacher by this example of leadership by our Acting President.

I urge all Nigerians, the Nigerian Bar Association inclusive, to play more proactive roles in protecting our democracy, rule of law and human rights.

We should not allow a few men and women to destroy our country by their impunity.

Prof Ernest Ojukwu SAN
