Happy 65th Birthday, Emeka Ngige, SAN, OFR.
Today, I celebrate a legal colossus and a statesman, whose life has been defined by service, intellect, and integrity. As Emeka Ngige, SAN, OFR clocks 65, we pause not just to mark years, but to honour a legacy that has shaped law, governance, and community in Nigeria.
Born into the proud Ngige family of Urueze-Ide Village, Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, you have carried the name with dignity and distinction. From your early days, the pursuit of excellence was evident. That pursuit led you to the bar, and through diligence, you rose to the inner bar as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), a recognition reserved for the very best.

At the bar, you have been fearless and principled. Your advocacy is renowned for its depth of research, clarity of argument, and command of the law. In courtrooms across the country, you have stood for clients great and small, always with the same conviction that the law must be obeyed and justice must be seen to be done.
Beyond litigation and currently a two-term Chairman of Council of Legal Education, you have been a builder of institutions. You remind lawyers that our calling is not just to win cases, but to defend democracy, the rule of law, and the dignity of the profession.
As a Senior Advocate, you have mentored a generation. Young lawyers who passed through your chambers did not just learn procedure, they learned ethics. They learned that brilliance without character is empty, and that a lawyer’s true wealth is his reputation. Many SANs and judges today count you as teacher and inspiration.
As the Chairman of the famous Class of 1985 Nigerian Law School, which yours sincerely has been made the leader, you have exhibited candour and pragmatism in piloting the affairs of the class as we have embarked on legacy projects worthy of emulation, especially at the Nigerian Law School Lagos Campus.

You are also a custodian of tradition and culture. Your chieftaincy titles Ikemba N’Alor – conferred on you in 2006 by the Igwe of Alor reflects a man rooted in his people. Yet you have never allowed tradition to become an excuse for injustice. You have used your influence to promote peace, education, and unity in Anambra and beyond.

The conferment of the national honour of Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR) by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2022 was a fitting acknowledgment of a life spent in service to country. But those who know you know you wear honours lightly. Your focus has always been on duty, not decoration.
In politics and governance, you have offered counsel with candour. You have been willing to speak truth to power, and to defend unpopular positions when the constitution demands it. That moral courage is rare, and it is why leaders across party lines respect your opinion.
At 65, your energy remains remarkable. Whether in a conference hall, a village square, or a courtroom, you bring the same preparation and passion. Age has not slowed you; it has refined you. The fire of youth is now tempered with the wisdom of experience.
You are also a family man whose home is built on the same values you preach in public: honesty, hard work, and faith. Your family is a reflection of the stability and grace that define you.

The legal profession in Nigeria is better because you walked its path. The NBA is stronger because you served it. Anambra is better because you served it. And Nigeria is better because men like you chose principle over expedience, again and again.
As you mark this milestone, we do not just celebrate what you have done. We celebrate who you are: a lawyer of learning, a leader of vision, and a Nigerian of conscience. The bar is proud to call you ours. The nation is proud to call you hers.
On your 65th, our prayer is simple: may your health be strong, your wisdom continue to guide us, and your voice remain a beacon in the defence of law and democracy. May the next chapter bring you joy, peace, and the satisfaction of seeing the seeds you planted grow.
Happy 65th Birthday, Emeka Ngige, SAN, OFR.
