A Magistrates Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has remanded a senior lawyer, Mr. Isoun Tupele Jefferson in Diobu Custodial Centre, Port Harcourt for alleged cyber stalking.

The remand order titled “COMMITMENT ON REMAND/REMAND WARRANT” came on the heels of a complaint by solicitors to the immediate past Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Port Harcourt Branch Chairman, Mrs. Cordelia Eke.

The case is listed as COP (Complainant/Applicant) vs Isoun Tupele Jefferson (Defendant/Suspect) with Charge No. PMC/RMP/206/2026.

A remand order seen by CITY LAWYER reads: “TO: All Police officers and the Superintendent of C41 Diobu
Custodial Centre Port Harcourt that Isoun Tupele Jefferson Defendant/Suspect hereinafter called the Defendant/Suspect, being brought before the Magistrate Court of Port Harcourt Magisterial District, sitting at SMC as Magistrate Court 20 (Add Court Number where applicable); charged with having committed an offence/alleged to have committed an offence contrary to Section 19 of the Cyber Crime (Prohibition, Prevention Act 2015.”

The matter has been adjourned to July 29 and July 30, 2026 for consideration of any bail application by the defendant.

The complaint by Stalwart Law Consult was dated 8th September, 2025, and titled “PETITION AGAINST MR. TUPELE JEFFERSON ISUON FOR CRIMINAL DEFAMATION, CYBER BULLYNG AND CONDUCT LIKELY TO CAUSE A BREACH OF THE PEACE.”

Addressed to the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, the solicitors wrote: “We write on the instructions of Mrs. Cordelia Uwuma Eke, a Director in the Rivers State Ministry of Justice and the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Port Harcourt Branch, hereinafter referred to as “Our Client.”

“Our Client has briefed us that one Mr. Tupele Turner Isuon, who is a legal practitioner and a member of the NBA Port Harcourt Branch, has since the assumption of office of our Client as chairman of the NBA Port Harcourt Branch, put up a sustained campaign of calumny, abuse, cyber bullying and harassment against our Client. Mr. Tupele has also utilized WhatsApp handles of the NBA Port Harcourt Branch, Facebook and other lawyers’ platform on social media to defame, abuse and harass our Client. This is geared towards inciting violence against our Client. Our Client has not had any personal altercation with Mr. Tupele to warrant the kind of treatment being meted out to our Client.”

In an earlier rejoinder by her solicitor, Mr. M. O. Egware titled “REJOINDER ON THE MISLEADING AND DEFAMATORY POST BY TUPELE JEFFERSON ISOUN AGAINST MRS. CORDELIA EKE, PAST CHAIRMAN NBA PORT HARCOURT BRANCH,” he stated that “It is on record that Mrs. Cordelia Eke served out her tenure as chairman of NBA Port Harcourt Branch on the 27th of June 2026 after holding the branch AGM wherein she was highly commended for her various achievements in office.

“Ordinarily therefore, one would not have bothered to respond to the unfounded allegations by Tupele Jefferson Isoun, Esq who, has constantly harassed, defamed, and cyber bullied the immediate past chairman of the branch on several social media platforms throughout her tenure as chairman, for reasons best known to him. It is however needful to do so now to set the records straight.

“It is to the credit of the past Chairman Mrs. Cordelia Eke, that during her tenure, for the first time , the branch received an inflow of over 1 billion Naira through the Branch accounts in the last fiscal year, which is quite unprecedented. It is, however, to be noted that the said sums were mostly lawyers’ fees paid through the branch by clients to ensure compliance with the NBA Remuneration Order standards for legal documentation. Most of these funds were also remitted to the Lawyers, less minimal administrative charges.

“It is also basic financial knowledge that as long as the monies pass through the NBA PH Branch account, they must be reported as income, while the bulk of the monies paid out to the respective lawyers are captured as expenditure. This was well stated in the Treasurers report and the Auditor’s report at the branch Biennial General Meeting.

“These facts are well known to the said Mr. Tupele Jefferson Isoun, but he intentionally chose to misrepresent the facts, discredit her administration and present the past chairman in bad light to her employers and the public at large.

“This is most unfortunate and indeed necessary steps would now be taken to address this conduct with necessary consequences.

“Mr. Isoun is hereby advised to pull down his nefarious posts and retract his false comments immediately on social media, in his own best interests.”
