Suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is now in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to a press statement seen by CITY LAWYER, the embattled erstwhile helmsman of the anti-graft arrived the DSS facility upon invitation by the secret police.

CITY LAWYER recalls that Bawa was suspended by President Bola Tinubu over “weighty” allegations of abuse of office levelled against him. He was “directed to immediately handover the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation.”

Bawa succeeded former EFCC Chairman Ibrahim Magu who was also suspended and underwent trial on alleged diversion of recovered government’s assets.

The Buhari Presidency said Magu’s suspension is to “allow for unhindered inquiry” by the panel investigating allegations of corruption during his tenure as EFCC chairman. Magu had denied all allegations against him.

The outcome of the President Buhari’s enquiry into Magu’s tenure as EFCC chairman has not been made public two years after his removal from office.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has invited Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, the suspended Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Bawa arrived a few hours ago. The invitation relates to some investigative activities concerning him.
