LAGOS ‘CHILD ABUSE’ TEACHER IS A WIDOW WITH KIDS
- MOTHER OF ‘VICTIM’ TEACHES IN SAME SCHOOL
The embattled teacher in the middle of a child abuse saga in Ikorodu, Lagos is a widow with adult children, CITY LAWYER can report.
According to a report by the Domestic Violence, Child Rights, and Persons Living with Disabilities Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikorodu Branch, the teacher has been with the school since inception in 2010.
Meanwhile, it has also emerged that the alleged child abuse which has since gone viral was filmed by a fellow teacher who failed to intervene, report the incident or caution the alleged perpetrator. The alleged victim’s mother, a widow and NCE holder, is also a nursery school teacher in the school.
According to the report signed by Mr. Olajide Abiodun, Vice Chairman of NBA Ikorodu Branch and Chairman of Body of NBA Vice Chairmen, the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ishola Olawale has ordered transfer of the case file to the Gender Unit of the Police Force in Ikeja, even as the alleged perpetrator pleaded ‘Not Guilty’ upon arraignment today.
The school’s Head Teacher, one Mrs. Adeiga, has distanced the school from the incident, vowing that the school maintains high standards. The school, Christ Mitots School, Ikorodu is presently under lock and key to facilitate investigation. The alleged victim is a three-year-old pre-school pupil (name withheld).
The report stated that the school was established and registered by the Ministry of Education on March 9, 2010, and is managed by Rev. A. A. Olutoye and Mrs. O. N. Olutoye.
The defendant is a Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) holder who has worked with the school for 14 years.
Following visits to the Family Support Unit (FSU) and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at Owutu Police Station, NBA Ikorodu Branch has expressed its preference for the trial to take place in Ikorodu, “given the jurisdiction and local interest.”
The police however assured the committee of transparency and diligence in handling the matter.
