NEWS RELEASE
The Nigerian Law Society (NLS) warmly congratulates the Federal Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and all other security agencies on the successful rescue of the pupils and teachers who were abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Reports indicate that the victims were safely rescued through coordinated security operations after weeks in captivity.

This remarkable achievement brings immense relief to the affected families, the people of Oyo State, and indeed all Nigerians who anxiously prayed and hoped for the safe return of the innocent victims.
The successful operation demonstrates that with determination, synergy, and adequate intelligence, criminal elements can be confronted effectively.

While we commend the Federal Government and the security agencies for this laudable success, we respectfully emphasize that this victory should not mark the end of the nation’s resolve against kidnapping and other violent crimes. Rather, it should serve as renewed momentum for more decisive, sustained, and intelligence-driven efforts aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring lasting peace and security across the country.
The Nigerian Law Society therefore calls upon the Federal Government to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve inter-agency collaboration, enhance the welfare and operational capacity of security personnel, secure vulnerable schools and communities, and ensure the diligent investigation, prosecution, and punishment of all persons responsible for kidnapping and related offences in accordance with the law.

A nation where children and teachers cannot learn in safety cannot fully realize its aspirations for national development.
The rule of law requires that every Nigerian is entitled to the protection of life, liberty, and dignity. Government at all levels must continue to discharge this constitutional responsibility with unwavering commitment until the menace of kidnapping is brought to a permanent end.
The Nigerian Law Society also commends the resilience of the affected families and communities throughout this painful ordeal and extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the teacher who reportedly lost his life during the period of captivity. We pray for the speedy physical and psychological recovery of all the rescued victims.
The Nigerian Law Society remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting the rule of law, the protection of fundamental human rights, and policies that advance the security and welfare of all Nigerians.
