EXCITEMENT, AS FG WELFARE PACKAGE BERTHS AT NBA PORT HARCOURT
Members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Port Harcourt Branch have joined the list of beneficiaries of Federal Government subsidized rice sales.
CITY LAWYER gathered that Federal Government agents had contacted the Branch Chairman, Mrs. Cordelia Eke to inform her that the branch had been enrolled as a beneficiary of the welfare scheme.
Available information shows that the 50 kiolgramme Thai rice is being sold to members at a subsidized price of N40,000 as against the market price of over N100,000.
To foster transparency, a notice obtained by CITY LAWYER indicated that members were to meet certain requirements before being eligible to participate in the scheme.
The notice reads:
Dear Learned Seniors and Colleagues, please be kindly informed that there will be sales of limited quantities of bags of rice from Federal Government to Branch members at the subsidized rate of N40, 000 per bag at NBA House tomorrow, Friday, 10th January, 2025. The sales will commence by 10 am prompt.
To be eligible to participate, the member must:
- Present his/her NIN
- Present his/her Branch Identity Card.
- Come with an ATM Card that the N40, 000 will debited from.
NB: - Sales will be by first come, first served basis until the limited number of bags are exhausted.
- No buying by proxy as all interested members must be present at the time of sale.
- No Cash Payment.
- No transfers.
Yours Truly,
Obum Nwoye, Esq. FICMC
Secretary, NBA PH Branch.
Upon payment, members were verified by the Federal Government agents and issued with purchase receipts which enable them to cart home the bags of rice.
CITY LAWYER gathered that Port Harcourt Branch, considered as the “mother branch,” extended the gesture to other branches in Rivers State, enabling them to also benefit from the scheme.
The scheme have thrown the Bar in the branch and entire state into a celebratory mood, as many hailed it as either “unprecedented” or “a very positive” step by Cordelia Eke-led administration.
As at yesterday, 16th January, over 700 bags of rice had been received and distributed to NBA members in Rivers State.
