EX NBA PRESIDENT AKPATA MOURNS, SAYS DAD WAS ‘LOVING, DEVOTED’
Former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, Mr. Olumide Akpata has confirmed the passing of his father, Dr. Henry Omorogieva Akpata.
Speaking with CITY LAWYER, Akpata bemoaned the loss of his father, saying: “It is true; my father is gone!”
He told CITY LAWYER that he is “still processing it all,” adding that “It has not been easy.”
In a message to CITY LAWYER on being inundated with calls and messages since news of the incident hit the social media, Akpata wrote:
My dear friends,
Thank you so much for your calls, messages, prayers, and very kind words since my Dad’s passing. I am most grateful.
As is to be expected, I am still “taking it all in” and I shall revert shortly with more information regarding his obsequies among others. Suffice it to say for now that he was a loving, supportive, and very devoted father who did everything he could to see to it that my siblings and I lacked nothing.
He will be sorely missed.
God bless you all!

CITY LAWYER recalls that Akpata had penned a moving birthday message to his father when he turned 84 years last year, saying: “Today, my heart is filled with immense gratitude as we celebrate the 84th birthday of my father, Dr. Henry Omorogieva Akpata, a man whose unwavering strength, quiet nature, resilience, and profound wisdom have been the bedrock of our family. For over three decades, since the passing of our beloved mother, my father has been our only parent, a steadfast anchor, guiding my sisters and I with a gentle hand and a deep commitment to our well-being. His unobtrusive nature not only allowed me to be the person I am today but has also instilled in me the importance of respecting others no matter who or what they may be, pursuing excellence, and leaving a positive impact on the world. As we celebrate this milestone, I am filled with gratitude to God for the gift of his life and the opportunity to honour him. May his wisdom continue to guide us, and may we always strive to emulate the values he has so gracefully embodied. Happy 84th birthday, Daddy. Thank you for being you and for always being there.”
