LPPC TO GRILL ‘SENIOR ADVOCATE’ APPLICANTS TOMORROW
-
NBA SET TO SUBMIT REPORT OF ITS INTERVIEWS
The Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) will from tomorrow commence its final interviews for the 2024 conferment exercise for the coveted rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
CITY LAWYER gathered that the exercise will last for three days, ending on July 31, 2024.
There are strong indications that the committee will announce results of the successful applicants immediately after the interviews and a final plenary session where it will review results of the interviews and reports on chamber inspection as well as petition received against any applicant.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has concluded its interview of the applicants. Spearheaded by Mr. Garba Tetengi SAN, Chairman of the NBA General Purposes Committee, reliable sources told CITY LAWYER that the interviews held on July 19 and 20, 2024. The committee has current Electoral Committee of the NBA (ECNBA) Chairman, Mr. Oluseun Abimbola SAN as Alternate Chairman.
The panelists who grilled the applicants are Tetengi; Mr. Steve Adehi SAN, Chairman of the NBA-SPIDEL Caretaker Committee, and NBA General Secretary, Mr. Adesina Adegbite, among others.
It is recalled that the LPPC had recently released a list of 98 shortlisted applicants for this year’s conferment exercise. While 87 applicants belong to the Advocate category, 11 are in the Academic category.
A statement by LPPC Secretary, Hajo Sarki-Bello, invited the public to comment on the integrity, reputation and competence of the applicants. Complaints must be accompanied by an affidavit deposed to before a superior court of record or a notary public.
“Publication of the names of the shortlisted applicants is not an indication of their success in the process,” the statement said.
The shortlisted candidates include the National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdulkarim Kana and former NBA National Officers, Messrs Kunle Edun and Rapulu Nduka.
The list also includes the Legal Adviser of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wendy Kuku; fiery human rights activist and former NBA Second Vice President, Dr. Monday Ubani; an Abuja-based human rights lawyer, Terkaa Aondo, and NBA Bwari Branch Chairman, Mr. Paul Daudu.
