MURDER: COURT ORDERS ACCELERATED TRIAL OF EBONYI LAWYER
An Abakaliki High Court has refused to grant bail to an embattled Ebonyi State based lawyer, Mr. Sunday Ununu who is facing a murder charge.
Instead, the presiding judge, Justice Iheanacho Chima adjourned the matter to November 28, December 6, and December 13 for trial.
Ununu is accused of causing the death of one Nnamdi Nwite-Ugo on August 21, 2024 in Agbaja-Unuhu, Abakaliki Local Government Area.
The 45-year-old lawyer is also facing a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm. He denies the charges.
He is currently being held in a correctional facility as ordered by an Abakaliki Chief Magistrates’ court.
Though the defense counsel, Mr. Donatus Njoku, had applied for bail for the lawyer at the last adjourned date, this was opposed by Mr. Jude UdokaChukwu, the Acting Director of Public Prosecution for the state. UdokaChukwu argued that bail should only be considered once full trial begins.
Justice Chima then adjourned the case to November 28, December 6, and December 13 for trial.
