NBA PORT HARCOURT REVIVES WELFARE SCHEME AFTER 10 YEARS IN COMA
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Port Harcourt Branch has unanimously approved a new welfare scheme for its members.
The proposal was presented by the Branch Executive Committee through the Branch Chairman, Mrs. Cordelia Eke (FICMC). This follows the collapse of the Pal Pensions scheme almost a decade ago.
The approval was one of the highlights of the branch monthly meeting which held at NBA House last Thursday.
A presentation on the range of services to be covered in the scheme was made by representatives of the HMO. The customised scheme is to cost the branch N12,000 per annum for each enrolled member. The health insurance scheme will be available to all financial members of the branch.
Members expressed delight at the welfare package, noting that it has once again given them a sense of belonging in the branch.
Senior lawyer, Mr. Tonye Krukrubo SAN also delivered a seminal Continuing Legal Education (CLE) paper titled, “Lawyers and unethical practices in the profession: Confronting the monster.”
Other highlights of the meeting were the appointment of the Young Lawyers Forum Executive Commitee, presentation and passage of the branch budget, approval of renovations of the NBA Common Room , and Committee reports among others.
The meeting was well-attended, as members trooped out en masse to tap into the repertoire of items on the agenda.
According to the NBA Port Harcourt Branch Publicity Team, the meeting was attended by Bar leaders including the 26th President of the NBA, Mr. Okey Wali SAN; Elder Wilcox Abereton, SAN; past Chairmen – Opuada Willie Pepple, Dennis Okwakpam, Lawrence Oko-jaja, SAN, Prince Nyekwere and Sylvester Adaka among other members.
