NEWS RELEASE
In a pivotal announcement aimed at improving the State’s justice system, Dr. Kayode Ajulo (OON, SAN), the Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, has unveiled a series of key initiatives aimed maintenance of criminal records and profiling of offenders, both cornerstones of a modern and efficient justice system.
According to a statement made available to CITY LAWYER, Ajulo unveiled the initiatives during the Body of Attorneys-General Conference chaired by the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN in Abuja.
Ajulo’s announcement followed a presentation by Prof. Yemi Akinseye-George, SAN, on the ‘Development of Harmonized National Minimum Standards for implementing the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) and Administration of Criminal Justice Laws (ACJLs).’
The Ondo State Attorney-General highlighted the commitment of the State Governor, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to the project and emphasised the administration’s focus on justice, citing numerous initiatives and projects that focus on this priority.
“Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration has prioritized justice reform, with several projects already underway that highlight Mr. Governor’s dedication to a safer and more secure Ondo State,” Ajulo said.
On criminal record maintenance, the senior lawyer stated that collaboration with law enforcement agencies will establish a comprehensive database of criminal records which will significantly enhance efficiency in tracking and monitoring criminal activities in the state.
He also stated that “Criminal profiling will analyze criminal behaviour and patterns, aiding in the identification of potential threats. There will also be a strong emphasis on intelligence sharing among law enforcement agencies to adopt best practices.”
The Chief Law Officer of the State also outlined several expected benefits that include enhanced operational efficiency for law enforcement agencies, improved public safety and security, and more effective investigation and prosecution of crimes.
He also noted that significant improvements in the justice system of Ondo State would not have been possible without Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment and support.
“These efforts are a testament to the commitment of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to a robust justice reform agenda aimed at promoting security, transparency, and effective law enforcement in Ondo State,” Ajulo said.
“These reforms underscore Governor Aiyedatiwa’s vision for a justice system that not only prosecutes but also prevents crime. His support has been instrumental in driving these changes forward, and his leadership has provided the momentum we need to see these initiatives take shape. Mr. Governor is laying a strong foundation for law enforcement and justice.”
In a spirit of collaboration, Ajulo invited Akinseye-George to contribute his expertise to the ongoing transformation of State justice sector.
