- DECISION MAY OCCASION SETTING OF CARETAKER COMMITTEE
The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi SAN has directed the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to postpone its forthcoming elections to August or to a date thereafter.
According to a document obtained by CITY LAWYER, the directive arose from a peace-building initiative undertaken by Fagbemi as the Leader of the Bar. Almost all NBA past Presidents participated in the process.
Below are the key resolutions from the initiative.
That the NBA Elections be postponed to a feasible time in August or ‘to any time soon thereafter’
That “NIN be compulsorily used” during the elections
That an Independent Electoral Oversight and Audit Committee” be set up to oversight the elections whenever held
That all pending cases be withdrawn
That serving NBA Presidents should be circumspect in showing preferences for candidates in NBA elections
That the service providers engaged by ECNBA and/or NBA be disengaged forthwith as they have no track record or expertise in managing similar elections
That the micro-zoning done by Egbe Amofin cannot be implemented in this round of elections
The NBA leadership is yet to respond to this latest development.
