MAIKYAU, BALA, ADESINA, OTHERS SET TO WIN NBA ELECTIONS

• GADZAMA THANKS SUPPORTERS, CALLS FOR CALM
• ‘WE MUST INTERROGATE THIS ELECTION,’ VOWS ABONYI

Barring any major upset, senior lawyer Mr. Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau SAN is set to be announced by the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) as the next NBA President.

Others that are also coasting home to victory are Linda Rose Bala as NBA 1st Vice President; Clement Ugo Chukwuemeka as 2nd Vice President and AWLA President, Amanda Ego Asagba as 3rd Vice President.

The battle for who becomes the next NBA General Secretary is virtually done and dusted, as former NBA Welfare Secretary, Adesina Adegbite has maintained an unassailable lead against his opponents, even as former NBA Assistant Publicity Secretary, Habeeb Akorede Lawal is set to clinch the position of Publicity Secretary following a last-gasp effort.

Mr. Charles Ajiboye is poised to emerge as the next NBA Assistant Publicity Secretary, having being in a pole-vault position against his only rival, Mr. Akachukwu Anthony Nwoye.

There are strong indications that Mr. Daniel Ka-Ayii Kip will keep faith with destiny as the next NBA Assistant General Secretary, even as the face-off between Lagos lawyer and former NBA Assistant General Secretary, Chinyere Obasi and NBA Welfare Committee member, Mr. Auta Nyada remains a neck-and-neck affair, with Obasi maintaining a slim lead.

The same is true of the battle for the post of Treasurer which has been narrowed between NBA SPIDEL Treasurer Funmi Adeogun and NBA Bukuru NEC Representative, Caroline Ladidi-Bishop.

Meanwhile, Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama SAN has thanked his supporters for their “unquantifiable contributions towards my attempt to be elected as the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on Saturday, July 16, 2022.”

Noting that he deeply appreciated the support, he however observed that there were “numerous complaints regarding the conduct of the election.”

But Gadzama urged his supporters to “remain calm during this season and pledge your loyalty to the Bar. I salute you all for your support, once again.” CITY LAWYER recalls that Gadzama’s agent had in a petition to the ECNBA demanded an audit of the election, citing several “irregularities.”

On his part, Dr. Gerald Abonyi, a candidate for the post of 2nd Vice President has also queried the credibility of the elections. In a complaint made available to CITY LAWYER, he wrote: “It is unfortunate that we as Lawyers have this type of Election. There is no credibility in this voting pattern. There is no attempt to make us understand. The type of lead against me is inexplicable since Midnight. All I want is an explanation. My Supporters are worried. This pattern has never been seen before. We must interrogate this. That is why we are Lawyers. My results for the Office of the NBA 2nd Vice President can never pass the test of valid scrutiny. We need to be convinced.”
